Certain small employers—generally fewer than 50 full-time employees that do not offer a group health plan—may reimburse qualifying employee health expenses under a QSEHRA, subject to program rules.
CHOICE Arrangements (formerly ICHRAs) can allow employers to reimburse qualifying individual coverage expenses. Employers of many sizes may be eligible, but affordability and employee-class rules matter.
Some businesses do not sponsor a formal reimbursement arrangement. Employees may purchase individual coverage on their own, but employer contributions and tax treatment require careful structuring.
CHOICE and QSEHRA arrangements can affect Marketplace premium-tax-credit eligibility and have employer notice, contribution, class, and coverage requirements. Eden’s Path can discuss health coverage paths; employers should involve qualified tax, payroll, benefits, or legal professionals for plan design and tax/legal questions.
